More About WeChat
Firstly, the ability for users to change their WeChat ID (WeChat username) is a big update, especially for expatriates. Often, when ex-pats first move to China, they don’t realize that the WeChat ID they make will be permanent… For instance, sometimes making a silly ID that they don’t understand will become part of their digital signature for their lifetime in China… thankfully, not anymore, however.
Furthermore, WeChat, or Weixin (its Chinese name), is mandarin for “micro-message.” Consequently, despite the original intention of WeChat as a messaging app, its power and usage have evolved since its 1998 foundation to one of the most important aspects of a Chinese person’s daily life. Most importantly, WeChat is the essential app in China because it integrates into all aspects of life: from chatting with friends to paying utility bills, WeChat is your China utility, which further explains why the ability to change a WeChat ID is super useful and important.
In conclusion, the in-depth usage of WeChat by Chinese society makes it one of China’s best digital marketing points for businesses and organizations alike. However, digital marketing efforts on China’s most essential tool does not come easy nor cheap. An advertisement through Tencent advertising starts at around USD 7,000. In other words, WeChat is one of the top advertising tools in China, but it can be pricey.
